Marina's Story
Marina Kasperovich | Sweden
SquashSkills has had an enormous impact for my game. I had tested a couple of times when I lived in Belarus, before I moved to Sweden in 2018. I had no one to play with, was hopelessly lonely, and was searching for new contacts. This was the reason why I came back to squash. While having no-one to play with, SquashSkills turned into a door opener. Solo exercises, and lots of useful information on various shots, game rules - absolutely everything!
Basics first: after having watched numerous videos on the grip, I started practicing. I had played some tennis before, so had a tennis-grip, which I was not not so happy about. I really wanted to hold racket in a way it should be in squash. I practiced a lot myself, and it worked.
So far, I've surpassed my own expectations. After many hours having practiced with SquashSkills I could finally figure out how I can lift the ball, employ more variation and tidy up my game.
I became faster to the T, and as a result, enjoyed playing many times more than I could in the beginning. Both when I practice myself or with a game-partner.
Comparing with my game for 3 years ago, when I started, I have more people around who would like to play with me. Thanks to SquashSkills, I feel that I have much more fun practicing solo.
People should play squash as it is a very varied sport. Both agile and strategic, smart and physical, challenging and easy to start at the same time. It is a perfect way to keep fit, take care of one's mental and physical health, a nice way to find and build friendships. Anyone can start practicing regardless of age and level of experience. It has no boundaries.
Squash is special for me as it was a way to break loneliness and it is a hobby where I can see personal progress. Besides, a friend of mine who I've tested squash for the first time, after a few years and specialised courses became a squash-coach. So for me it is even a proof of squash being a career-changing opportunity.
